Blacklisting phone numbers

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Tonight we reached our limit of tolerance with unsolicited calls. Since we implemented our PBX we are able to identifiy almost 25% of the calls in any week are spam. Most end in the IVR but some get through to the phone.

Our Voip provider (http://les.net) usually marks spam caller ID’s with BLACKLISTED so identifying the obvious ones is easy. And installing the Blacklist module in FreePBX finishes the job.

Now if we get a spam call, we *32 to add last caller to the Blacklist. We also periodically review the Reports page of FreePBX and manually add numbers identified by les.net as Blacklisted. Blacklisted callers get a tone and message indicating the number is not in service.

We love the peace and quiet :-)
